The Fast 800 diet is a plan that is becoming increasingly popular.
Using fasting, the creator of the diet claims you can shed a stone in just three weeks.
Doctor Michael Mosley, who helped popularise the 5:2 diet, is behind the plan. Britons may recognise his from his regular appearances on The One Show.
Michael Mosley wrote for the Daily Mail: “Stick to the plan and you could lose up to a stone in three weeks.”
How does the Fast 880 diet work?
Dieters eat just 800 calories a day for two weeks on the plan, but they an choose to do it for longer.
The expert claims eating 800 calories tricks the body into a fasting state, but is more manageable than eating fewer calories.
The calories can also be eaten in any manner you choose, whether it’s one big meal or lots of little ones.
The doctor also recommends eating the 800 calories in a shorter window of time if possible, to enhance the effects of the plan.
For those worried about safety, the doctor claims research has found this sort of diet is safe.
However, there are some limitations, which include eating 800 calories a day for a maximum of 12 weeks.
Also, under 18s, pregnant and breastfeeding people, underweight people, those with eating disorders or psychiatric disorders, or those with heart problems should not attempt the diet.
The Fast 800 diet cuts to the basic premise of weight loss, which is that eating fewer calories than you burn causes you to lose weight.
Another version of this diet is called the CICO diet, and stands for calories in calories out.
However, followers of this plan tend to personalise the number of calories they are having.
Fasting too has become incredibly popular, often referred to as IF or intermittent fasting.
Those who follow these plans can choose to fast in a number of ways.
They may do the 16/8 method, where they skip either breakfast or dinner and eat two meals in an eight hour window.
Some choose to do one or two 24 hours fasts each week. Some follow the 5:2 diet, eating 500 to 600 calories two days a week.
Another hugely popular diet is the keto diet, and a nutritionist has revealed her tips to get the best out of the diet.
Nutritionist Hebe Mills, founder of Hebe Mills Nutrition, is an associate nutritionist.
She runs her online platform to inspire healthy and happy eating. After being diagnosed with gluten intolerance and IBS she began to revaluate how the food she ate affected her body.
The food expert gave a warning to Express.co.uk about the popular keto diet, due to the high fat content the diet espouses.
She said: “Be mindful of the high energy content in a number of foods recommended in the diet.
“Fat contains more calories than carbohydrate (which isn’t a bad thing in the slightest!) so it may be worth monitoring your energy intake if the purpose of the diet is for weight loss.”
